Writer's Block: Volunteering

When it comes to making a difference, some people donate money and others volunteer their time. What cause gets your time or money?

I am totally self absorbed and lazy, and therefor don't do a whole lot of volunteering. I wish I had more time or money to do such things. When I can I grab a five dollar voucher at the cash register when I buy groceries to help feed struggling families in the valley. At Christmas time I usually try to make a few scarves and hats and toss them out to homeless people.

My mom is obsessed with helping homeless people.
She also can't say no to charities that call her, even if she has NO MONEY AT ALL.

We do our best, we could do better.
Right now I need to focus on not letting myself become homeless.

Kat's Closet is re-opening!!

So, two year later, here we are. I have decided to once again open my doors up for the '08 fall and winter seasons! Yay! I have recently graduated from school and am now a fully certified as a cosmetologist in the state or Oregon. I am working at two salons in the downtown area and LOVING it! I also got MARRIED about a month ago. Time flies, right?

So now that things are a little more settled than they once were I am getting back on the crochet train. I don't know what to do with myself now that I'm done planning a wedding!

I'm looking forward to talking to you all again and catching up! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer, and is looking forward to the new school year!

Synth Dreads, Cappello's, and pimpage

Hey guys, just a friendly announcement from, well. Me? duh.
I am having to take a two month leave from school due to a family emergency sort of situation, so I am going to have PLENTY of free time on my hands.

Lucky for you, I don't have internet of my own, so this does not mean that you are going to be seeing six posts a day from me.

It does, however, mean that I will be sort of haphazardly able to MAKE stuff again and sell it to anyone that's interested. Kat's Closet isn't exactly going to be up and running like old times, but I will be making scarves, hats (including the famous Cappello!) and my latest addition to the mix: SYNTH DREADS!
For those of you who don't know, these are just about the hippest most awesome fashion accessory on the market these days.

Google them, or for a quick peek check out my "Hair" folder in my pictures on Myspace. My ID is dellaxterra. They are the fastest, easiest way to get the look of dreadlocks WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR NATURAL HAIR! As soon as you're over 'em, take them out and your hair will be right there waiting for you.

How do I order?
You can either comment on an entry, or send an email to katarinascloset@hotmail.com with the name/description of the item you are interested in. I will then send you an order form.
Fill it out, send it in, and you're good to go!

What types of payment do you accept?
We accept

How often do you check your email?
All payments will be processed through paypal, unless otherwise discussed. If you do not have a paypal account, you can get a basic one for free. I do not accept checks, (so please do not ask) and concealed cash will be accepted at the sender's risk (meaning that if your money gets lost in the mail, it's your problem, not mine). I highly suggest getting a paypal account.

I don't have a 'livejournal' account, can I still place an order?
Absolutely! Simply email katarinascloset@hotmail.com and request an order form!

Do you do custom orders?
I certainly do. Tell me what you're looking for and I'll see what I can come up with.

What do you charge for shipping?
All shipping costs are usually included in the asking price. Email me if you are curious about international or rushed shipping.

How should I wash my garments?
You can find a list of Kat's Closet products and how they should be cared for HERE

what is 'store credit'?
Store credit can be anything from contest winnings, promotional offers, or just random discounts I decide people deserve because I like them. Be sure and check the list to see if you've got any yourself!

The SZ is a special section for LJ friends ONLY.

What is this Artist of the Month business and how can I become involved?
The Artist of the Month is a section designed to let people that are interested in my work, check out some people that I admire and personally want to support as much as possible. Usually I just contact people I find randomly and ask them if I may feature them here. Sometimes their work is for sale through Kat's Closet, other times there will simply be a link so you may buy directly from them.
If you would like to inquire about being a featured artist at Kat's Closet: please leave an email addressed "Featured Artist" or something of the like in my mailbox (katarinascloset@hotmail.com) including a link to your work and I will bookmark you for future pimping if I feel that you fit the part!
Remember, I am always more than happy to exchange links/banners with people, so if you're looking for exposure that might be something of interest as well!

Cappello's

Cappello's are our specialty here at Kat's Closet. They are over-sized crocheted beanies, similar to tams but they don't look as funny if you don't have dreads. Which isn't to say that they don't look just as fabulous with them! They are warm in the winter, not-too-hot in the summer, and snuggly-soft. Even my guy friends dig 'em, and I've been stopped on the street and questioned about 'em as well. Definitely a best seller!

The average size, which is large enough for anyone with straight or short-medium length curly hair (almost anyone) takes about 1 skein of yarn and is the standard price for all Cappello's unless otherwise listed. Add a specialty yarn, a color or two, or get a larger one for a few extra bucks!

COLORS
The following are a comprehensive list of colors I have available to me for a reasonable price. All ‘create-your-own’ scarves using one of these colors will be at the normal price, assuming there aren’t any extra features. It is possible for me to get a hold of other colors of this super soft yarn, although I will have to send away for them, so the price of any colors not on my list will land somewhere around $35. Other arrangements can be made, and I am always willing to talk things through! Don’t be shy, drop me a line!
